If your flight gets cancelled for a reason outside of your control, we recommend contacting your airline in the first instance as they usually have a legal duty to offer you a full refund or provide an alternative flight.
If your flight was due to arrive or depart to or from a destination in Europe, your airline is usually required to offer you:
- a full refund of the parts of the ticket not used; or
- an alternative flight to your final destination as soon as possible; or
- an alternative flight to your final destination at a later date which suits you, including an airport transfer
For flights outside of the UK and Europe, your rights will vary according to the terms and conditions of your airline. However, most airlines will still have a contractual obligation to offer you a refund or alternative flight if they cancel your original flight.
You can find more information about your rights to compensation for cancelled and delayed flights on the Citizens Advice website.
