How do you define a family member?


For insurance purposes, we consider a family member as your:


  • spouse (by marriage, domestic partnership or civil union)
  • parents and stepparents
  • children, stepchildren, foster children, adopted children or children currently in the adoption process
  • siblings
  • grandparents and grandchildren
  • in-laws (must be mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister or grandparent)
  • aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews
  • legal guardians and wards
  • paid, live-in caregivers
  • cohabitants (who are at least 18 years old and have lived with you for at least 12 consecutive months)
