Do I have to pay for my medical bills whilst abroad?


If you are admitted to a hospital or clinic whilst abroad, the Emergency Assistance Service will arrange for medical expenses to be paid direct to the hospital or clinic. To take advantage of this benefit it is important that you or someone on your behalf contacts the Emergency Assistance Service on +44 (0)203 126 4042 as soon as possible.


If you need out-patient treatment, please make payment to the hospital or clinic yourself retaining all original receipts and claim back the medical expenses on your return home.


Please beware of requests for you to sign for excessive treatment, tests or charges. If you feel uncomfortable with the proposals presented to you or if in any doubt about the validity or necessity for the tests or treatment suggested, relative to the condition that you visited the hospital or clinic for, please contact the Emergency Assistance Service on the above number for help and guidance. The Assistance Service will be in a position to advise you and where necessary speak directly to the service provider to ensure that the proposed treatment and investigations are relevant and the charges are customary and reasonable.
