Cortina, Italy

Ski Resort Info

Cortina is one of the top Italian resorts with some of the best skiing scenery in the world. It offers Italian style both on and off the slopes and also some fantastic skiing. More often than not there are more non-skiers than skiers so the resort offers plenty of non-skiing activities. With pistes above 2500 metres you are almost guaranteed skiing and snowboarding throughout the season. Although the lift system is a little old in places it manages to cope with the skiers passing through, it centres mainly on cable cars, whilst drags and chairlifts service the rest of the slopes.

The Ski Slopes

Cortina offers great skiing for beginners and intermediates with over 60% of the runs rated as intermediate. With many of the pistes not being too challenging you can explore the whole area and take in the breath taking scenery. Although there are few blacks advanced skiers can still have fun, as the slopes are well groomed and not overcrowded you can push yourself on some of the steeper red runs. Tofana is the place to go for advanced skiers looking for more challenging skiing.

Many of the slopes are south facing and pick up a lot of sun but the 30 or so snow cannons means there is always a good covering of snow. There are also a number of great well prepared trails for cross country skiers. For snowboarders the runs are better for carvers as the off piste is not extensive. For those wishing to visit the terrain park you need to head to Faloria.

Après Ski

Variety is the key here; this is après ski Italian style. Shopping here is unrivalled with many shops in the pedestrian zone where people go to see and be seen. There are many wine bars to choose from before and after you visit the plentiful restaurants. For those wishing to stay up late there are several clubs which don’t start until around 11pm or if you fancy something a little quieter you could try one of the piano bars for something a little different. Alongside the usual activities, like ice skating and dog-sledding Cortina offers the chance to try rafting with a twist, here they raft down a ski jump.
